Prom-A-Palooza 2010
Prom-A-Palooza, organized by Living Waters Foundation, and supported by area businesses and organizations, was held at the Osceola Assembly of God Church. The day started out with continental breakfast of rolls, coffee and juice. The rolls were donated by Jean Gardner and Sharon Raymond of Osceola. After a brief overview of the day the girls were excited to start selecting and trying on dresses with the assistance of Cheryl Duly, WINGS Refuge. Within a short amount of time everyone had a dress ready to wear or they had a dress altered by Jackie Traverson, Traverson Designs, Bolivar, who altered dresses throughout the day. Also during the morning, Lara Hills, Bolivar, gave hair trims to the girls or their moms.

Lunch was preceded by a short testimony by Crista Murdock, Mrs. Kansas International 2010, who shared about date respect and an experience she had as a young lady in high school. Each girl was given a tiara to take home as a symbol of being a princess in God’s eyes. At the conclusion of Crista’s talk, a wonderful lunch was prepared by volunteers, Trina, Caleb, Danielle, and Hayley Taylor, Gene Holtgrewe, and Anita Slocum. Tables were beautifully decorated by Debbie and Jennah Leiber. Lunch was sponsored by Buzz’s Market, Collins, Carney’s, Osceola, Joe’s Countryside Market, Bolivar Walmart, Osceola Standard Station, and Truman Lake Community Foundation.

At the conclusion of lunch, Fantasy Cuts beauticians, Feleina Fornshell, Renee Frost, and Anita Rapp were set up and ready to give each of the girls a special hair up do. Melody Joplin, Studio U Salon, held mini classes for the girls and taught them how to care for their feet and do a self pedicure. Kim Bastow and Lisea Morris, Mary Kay Consultants, along with assistant, Shirley Ann, taught the girls how to choose and apply makeup. Thank you cards, handmade by Susan Williams, were available for the moms to sign as the girls were getting hair and makeup done.

As the girls finished up and changed into their dresses for pictures, gift bags were prepared with make up, hair care products, and personal hygiene items donated by Cover Girl Cosmetics, Shear Design Hail Salon, Clinton, Janice Leiber, Country Corner Auction, Vista, Osceola Barber and Style, #1 Nails, Clinton, Super Scissors & Clarice’s, Osceola, Deb-N-Hair, Salon 109, Tangled Perfection Salon, Looks Unlimited, Evans Drugs, and El Dorado Bargain Factory, all of El Dorado Springs.

Also included in the gift bags were gift certificates for dry cleaning the dresses from Elite Cleaners and Crest Cleaners of Clinton and Behr Cleaners in Bolivar. Gift certificates were also donated by Fantasy Cuts, Golden Valley Beauty Academy, and Bloomers Flower Shop, all of Clinton. New jewelry and shoes were available this year due to the generosity of a grant from Truman Lake Community Foundation, Clinton.

All in all a great day was experienced by 35 girls from Osceola, Clinton, Stockton, El Dorado Springs, Humansville, Weaubleau, Wheatland, Hermitage, and Bolivar. In addition to the young ladies in attendance another 12 girls came in the following weeks after the event to select dresses and shoes. Dresses are still available if you know of someone who needs one for this year’s prom. In fact, we are still receiving donated dresses, shoes, jewelry and financial donations for next year’s event!

A representative of Living Waters would be more than happy to visit your church or organization to share about the vision God has put in our hearts to reach out to the people in our rural area. Call if you’d like more information or to schedule a speaker.
